WBUR Welcomes New Board Members

WBUR is excited to announce the appointment of four new board members.

  • Carmen Arce-Bowen and Neela Pal are the two newest members of WBUR's Board of Directors, the governing body of the station.
  • Angela Liu and Diane Patrick are the two newest members of WBUR's Community Advisory Board.

Carmen Arce-Bowen is the Chief Operating Officer of The Partnership, Inc. , a Boston-based organization focused on attracting, developing and retaining professionals of color in the region. She manages the finances, events, content and recruitment for all leadership development programs for the organization. In addition, she co-chairs the Executive Council, a group of nearly 50 heads of HR and D&I in the region that convene several times a year to share best practices and tackle challenges in the field. Neela Pal spent the last six years as Vice President, Marketing for Tripadvisor, where she transformed the company’s brand vision and identity and led the global organization in development and execution of creative brand and product marketing strategies and campaigns across 40+ markets. WBUR is owned and operated by The Trustees of Boston University. Boston University has delegated authority for the oversight of WBUR operations and finances, as well as the review and approval of strategic goals, to the WBUR Board of Directors under the leadership of the Executive Committee.

Directors are selected on the basis of their individual interests, diverse perspectives, special expertise, vision and dedication to the advancement of the station.

Angela Liu is a founding member and Director of Hack.Diversity , a division of the New England Venture Capital Association (NEVCA). Hack.Diversity partners with employers in Boston’s innovation economy to increase the representation of Black and Latinx technologists in the field, as well as evolve organizational behaviors and practices to support retention and promotion of that talent. Diane Patrick is a Senior Counsel at Ropes & Gray LLP, having retired from the firm at the end of 2016 after more than 35 years of practice in the labor and employment area. She continued her practice full-time during the eight years (2007-2015) that she served as First Lady of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Read her full bio here.

The Community Advisory Board (CAB), as required by federal law, reviews the programming goals established by WBUR, the service provided by WBUR, the significant policy decisions rendered by WBUR, and assesses whether the programming and other policies of the station are meeting the specialized and cultural needs of the communities served by WBUR.

The WBUR CAB is composed of Boston-area community and business leaders dedicated to supporting and advancing the mission of WBUR and its affiliated stations, while representing the different voices and faces of our community.
